Conserve water

It’s so easy to take water for granted – turn on a tap, it appears. This makes it easy to forget what a precious resource it is, and with Surrey likely to get hotter and drier in the coming years, we must work together to conserve water however possible. In 2024, Surrey Fire and Rescue had to tackle a wildfire in January, for the first time ever. This is due to our changing weather patterns which create long dry periods. We know Surrey will be subjected to far more heat stress in the future, thus managing water resources is critical to our people and our countryside.

Surrey residents are committed to saving water and taking smart actions to reduce their water use. We need water to survive, but with climate change and population growth, the problem of water scarcity is growing. Still, we can change our habits and lifestyles to conserve this precious resource.

Saving water is important for our survival. But it also has multiple benefits for any household and organisation including:

  • Saving money on your water bills.
  • Avoiding drought and water restrictions in the summer.
  • Supporting the wildlife to thrive by reducing the strain on our natural water resources.
  • Putting less pressure on water treatment by reducing the amount of water running down the drain.
