Protect vulnerable family members or neighbours

We all want our loved ones to be safe and well, and the concern is even greater if a family member is vulnerable. It is important for the vulnerable population to stay cosy and comfortable, but there can be times when issues arise in getting access to heat and water. There is a way to ensure that vulnerable residents get prioritised when there are interruptions in electricity, gas, or water supplies, but surprisingly not many of us know about this.

The service is called the Priority Services Register. It is a free support service that gives extra advice and ensures that vulnerable residents can access electricity, gas, and water as quickly as possible. There are over 3 million people on the Priority Services Register in the UK, but there are far more households that could benefit from this service.
You would be eligible to be on the Priority Service Register if you are:
– a household with children under 5 years old or adults over 80
– anyone who needs to keep medication cold
– are reliant on power for health reasons

If you are eligible or could help your family and neighbours to apply, register now. There are a variety of benefits to be registered on the Priority Service Register, including:

  • Receiving an advance notice of planned power outages, so that you can prepare.
  • Being on the priority list in getting support during outages, which is likely to get more common with increasing impacts of climate change.
  • Getting support with managing energy bills and queries.
  • Becoming a priority customer when you call your network provider.
