Use social prescribing services
In the UK, there is a clear demand for preventative healthcare. 85% of British people recognise that in the example of obesity, the benefits of preventative healthcare outweigh the option of treating existing issues with medication. Based on the knowledge that physical activities can be beneficial for preventing over 20 chronic conditions and saving the NHS over £5 billion every year (UK Active – preventative healthcare).
In line with the NHS plan for preventative healthcare, social prescribing has gained traction. One element of this is, green social prescribing, an approach based on the health benefits of nature-based activities. As more people get support, the results demonstrate the positive effect of nature-based activities on both our physical and mental health.
Cases of “nature prescription” are rising in Surrey. But one thing that is worrying is that Surrey’s nature loss rate is higher than the national average (Surrey County Council – Urban Greening). We need to remember that nature gives so much to us. It not only provides us with a means of life but also promotes our health and wellbeing. So, it’s vital we all play our role to protect nature to allow future generations to benefit from all it has to offer.
