Save money on baby clothes

Babies grow fast, meaning they grow out of their clothes really fast.

Whether it’s saving money, reducing the amount of excessive waste we create, or simply cutting down the amount of time and energy we spend on shopping, there are enough reasons to stop shopping for baby clothes. And luckily, we’ve got great solutions in Surrey.

Surrey Hills Baby Clothes Library is a great example of community-led action which helps save parents money, whilst cutting waste. They provide baby clothes (from new-born to 2 years old) to Surrey residents in a box that covers three-month age range.

You pay a £20 deposit for your first box, and then you can simply upgrade every three months as your baby grows. You can reclaim your £20 donation back at the end or leave with the community group to help them expand.

These libraries can help to ensure that you can always get your child well-fitted clothes while reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry. They also provide multiple co-benefits including:

  • Cutting costs and waste: The first few years of a child's life can create a huge amount of waste, much of which can't be recycled, creating problems in our local environment.
  • Improving economic efficiency: Sharing resources maximises their usage which makes better economic sense by optimising the lifecycle of each item.
  • Increasing access to resources: They provide access to a variety of baby items that some families might not be able to afford or need only temporarily.
  • Promoting equity: By making essential baby items accessible to all, these libraries help bridge economic disparities and promote social equity.
