Support local businesses while eating more sustainably

Protecting farmlands and smallholdings is an important issue in counties like Surrey, while nationally, we want to lift the burdens of the overwhelmed NHS. Our food choices can be key to both problems: We can support local farmers and stay healthy by eating local produce.
Around 85% of us are seeking out purchasing options that support the local economy while being sustainable (PwC 2024 Voice of the Consumer Survey | PwC), but it can be confusing to know where to start. Buying produce from the local farmers and small food shops that support the farmers helps the local economy, is better for our health (because we can eat fresher fruits and vegetables), and is better for the environment as well (because less transport means lower carbon emissions).

There are lots of benefits to buying produce from local farmers and small shops, such as:

  • Enjoying fresher, tastier, and more nutritious fruits and vegetables.
  • Boosting the local economy and strengthening the community connection by supporting local businesses and farmers.
  • Contributing to the preservation of farmland and green spaces in your local area.
  • Reducing your carbon footprint and ecological impact.
