Conduct wildlife surveys in your area

Wildlife recording by residents and communities plays a key role in understanding the health of our local habitats and ecosystems. And with around 1/3 of Surrey’s native species now extinct or threatened, it’s never been more important for our communities to help map the state of nature locally.

Surrey Wildlife Trust can help you learn how to conduct wildlife recording through a tailored course. The bad news is this is so popular that the courses are fully booked! The good news is that if you email SWT to say you’re keen, they might add more courses if demand is high enough!

Wildlife recording plays a key role in understanding how we can protect Surrey's beautiful countryside to beneft nature, and what we need to do in urban areas to create wildlife corridors:

  • Help to create a baseline for your local area, to better understand what species are threatened locally.
  • Get out in nature and feel the mental and physical health boosts.
  • Learn new skills and enjoy the fulfilling benefits of volunteering.
  • You might even contribute to historic records in Surrey Biodiversity Information Centre
