Improve local air quality

Air pollution is the biggest environmental risk to health. In the UK, air pollution is linked to 28,000 to 36,000 deaths each year (Public Health England). The central and local governments are making efforts to improve air quality by promoting electric vehicles (EVs), regulating domestic burning, and upgrading public transport vehicles to name a few.

In Surrey, we manage air quality across the county and apply policies to enjoy cleaner air: Efforts include promoting lift shares, increasing hydrogen and electric buses, and operating an efficient road network.

There are many benefits to improving air quality in your community. These include:

  • Reducing chances of lung and cardiovascular diseases.
  • Improving water quality as fewer particles go into land and water.
  • Improving visibility so we could enjoy outdoor views much better.
  • Increasing productivity and quality of life through better health and wellbeing.
