Join a community garden

Getting your hands dirty in nature is a proven recipe for uplifting your mood. You can create a beautiful garden at your doorstep but another popular way of doing this is to join a local community garden.

There are several community gardens and orchards in Surrey including Rosamund Community Garden in Guildford, Community Orchard Project South East (COPSE) in Waverley, Surrey Care Trust’s Gateway Garden in Reigate, and Elmbridge EcoHub to the North of Surrey. If there isn’t anything near you, why not join forces with other local enthusiasts and start one?

There are loads of benefits to joining a local growing project. These include:

  • Improving your mental and physical health with an activity that involves nature experience and social interaction, both of which are proven to be beneficial for your wellbeing.
  • Growing and harvesting your own fruits and vegetables without chemicals or pesticides.
  • Expanding your social circle and skill sets by meeting new people and learning new skills in gardening.
  • Supporting the local community by encouraging your neighbours to develop green fingers.
