Celebrate sustainable organisations in Mole Valley

On Thursday 16th October 2025, Mole Valley held its first Sustainability Awards, a special event recognising everyday heroes. These individuals and organisations are creating initiatives that protect Surrey’s future and make the county a great place to live and work. They recognise the need for community action to reverse Surrey’s above-average nature loss, ensure future generations inherit a thriving county and economy, and improve resident wellbeing.

The event was a huge success, with over seventy delegates from across the district coming out to celebrate the districts achievements at the beautiful Pippbrook House. Host, Cllr Claire Malcomson emphasised the importance of events like this to learn about the great work taking place in Mole Valley, feel re-energised and to inspire others. Winners were given an award and a goodie bag - with wine kindly donated by local B-Corp vineyard, Denbies.

To celebrate their success and show gratitude for their hard work and innovation, the Sustainability Awards honoured one winner from each of the following seven categories: - Travel & Transport - Waste & Recycling - Food & Drink - Shopping - Energy - Nature & Biodiversity - Leading the Way

The winners covered a breadth of projects ranging from Circular Dorking’s Library of Things, which allows residents to borrow infrequently used items rather than buying and storing them, to Ashtead Peace Memorial Hall reducing their energy consumption via solar panels.

The nominees have highlighted how having one mission can also bring with it a wealth of other benefits, which include:

  • Help people to save money and value their resources
  • An increased sense of community
  • Learn new skills
  • Help reduce emissions in your local area
  • Building resilience against extreme weather impacts
  • Attracting volunteers and staff
