Parish Nature and Climate Plans

We all want to protect rare and special places across Surrey – from our ancient yew trees, to bluebell woods, the treasured National Landscape, and even a hidden waterfall!

Many of these amazing bits of history sit within Surrey’s parish boundaries, and understandably our parish councils and residents want to protect the things that make Surrey a special place to call home.

Surrey’s parishes often work collaboratively through SALC – the Surrey Association of Local Councils. But it can be tricky to navigate the challenges in making parishes a great place to live, from reducing the burden on often narrow roads, to reducing the amount of litter left by visitors, to protecting green space.

SCC can offer support to parishes looking to bring these challenges together under a cohesive long term plan. Contact us at greenerfutures@surreycc.gov.uk for more information. Creating a plan can help your parish to:

  • Reverse Surrey's loss, with 11% of our native species going extinct in the last few decades.
  • Reduce pollution, including testing river quality, litter, and noise & air pollution.
  • Deal with the threats to parishes like flooding, train line closures, and loss of precious habitat that will accelerate due to climate change.
  • Reduce energy bills through strategic energy planning.
